Flow conditioning system for tri-sonic high pressure aerothermal testing

Blowdown testing offers a cost-effective experimental tool to replicate the aerothermal conditions in numerous high speed systems. The wind tunnel must inlet operating conditions, while spatial and time dependent flow should be assessed carefully. This paper provides design methodology rules that ensure adequate conditioning pressure tunnels suitable for subsonic supersonic operation with mass-flow limits ranging from 1 kg/s 25 kg/s, Reynolds numbers 103 (1/m) 4x107 (1/m), Mach 0.01 up 6. quality of proposed system was evaluated using stereo PIV measurements combined hotwire, Pitot probe, total temperature traverses.
